Book Cover – Design Tips for a More Attractive Appeal
Book cover is the very first thing that your potential reader will see regardless if it is in the book store or in online. With this being said, it is critical to make the cover or layout look attractive and appealing as it can be. Here are some of the tips that can be of help in drafting your design and sell more than your target.
Number 1. Consider your readers and audience – depending on who you are targeting, the requirements for the book’s appearance will vary. For this reason, you should try looking in the bookstore to check out what’s more appealing to people who are likely planning to buy your book. For instance, you may notice that books intended for entrepreneurs are often paperbacks in 5.5″ x 8.5″ size with red and yellow as its predominant colors and with average of 150 pages.
As for the books intended for corporate executive use, the books are hard bound in full 6″ x 9″ size with gray and blue paper covers w/ 200 pages average or more.
Number 2. Front cover should shout greatness – when browsing online, the very first thing that you will notice is the front cover of the book. Knowing about this, apply this to the people who are doing the same thing and searching for books like yours. As much as possible, you want to use attractive photo or a catchy and large title; ideally do both to get their attention.
The title needs to grab their attention and the subtitle should give them a thorough detail. With this in mind, while the book’s title isn’t right in front of their eyes, it should at least be able to appear somewhere in the subtitle. It will be ideal to pique their curiosity using memorable and catchy title. Then again, you have to explain it thoroughly using your subtitles.
Whether you opt to use photo as book cover or not, it will be determined by your fame and purpose. If you are well known in the field and that your readers can recognize you, then it will be nice to use photo.
Number 3. Don’t forget the back cover – the back cover has to have headline and then followed by brief synopsis of your book which should be no longer than 200 words. Once done, you can add some endorsements and testimonials. When using different sources that your target market can identify you with or recognizes, it can help a lot in increasing the sales of your book.
Always follow these tips and you will be on the right path.
